Wolverines Claim Regional Championship After Record-Breaking Season
The Wolverines Field Hockey team capped off an extraordinary season last Friday, securing the Regional Championship title with a thrilling 12–9 victory over the Ridgeview Panthers. The win marks the Wolverines’ first regional field hockey championship in nearly a decade and highlights what coaches are calling one of the strongest squads the program has ever fielded.
Head Coach Stephanie Ward praised her players for their discipline and teamwork. “This group showed heart from day one,” Ward said. “Their work ethic, focus, and unity set them apart. I’m incredibly proud of what they accomplished together.”
Season Highlights Included:
- A 12–2 regular-season record, the best in program history
- A defense that allowed the fewest goals in the district
- Standout performances by team captains Eli Thompson (midfield) and Maya Lawrence (attack)
- Breakout contributions from several underclassmen who stepped up in key games
The championship match drew one of the largest crowds of the season, with families, classmates, and alumni filling the stands. The energy peaked in the fourth quarter when Lawrence scored a decisive goal, followed by a last-minute save from goalie Sam Ortiz to secure the victory.
“It means everything to bring this home,” Lawrence said. “We’ve been building toward this all year, and it feels incredible to see our hard work pay off.”
The Wolverines will be honoured at an upcoming all-school assembly. Go Wolverines!
